What You Need To Know About This Course
Students will learn air source heat pump application details for specifying cold climate heat pumps that will improve energy efficiency and comfort for homes or commercial properties. Course content will involve best practices and application of design load calculations, system type, system capacity, indoor and outdoor unit locations, and duct design.
The following sections discuss the training itself, certifications, prerequisites, and who should take the course.
Hands-On Training & Lab Work
Our Heat Pump Sizing & Selection Course has numerous hands-on training components. For example, in the System Sizing and Specification part, you’ll ensure capacity at design load and minimize the need for supplemental backup, when available. You’ll also ensure the turn-down ratio is sufficient to not short-cycle at partial load by addressing a multi-split exacerbation issue with individual heads.
The training concludes with Recommended Practice Design Examples. You and other students will design a basic VCHP system for an entire house with multiple zones and varied loads. There are two example homes, common design failures/errors, and effective problem-solving techniques.
Certification Opportunities
Course graduates will meet the requirements to apply as an approved Air Source Heat Pump Installer. You’ll receive the ASHP Manufacturer-Sponsored Installation Training Certificate and ASHP Manufacturer-Sponsored Cold Climate ASHP Sizing/Design Training Certificate. With these certifications, your customers can apply for utility rebates, a major differentiator in New York State.
Prerequisites & Requirements
Technicians must have EPA 608 by the time of class.
